The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced a piece of massive news, as they set up indoor cricket training academies in north-east states to improve the aspiring cricketers from the region.
Players from Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim can get the help of these academies, which will be based in Shillong, Itanagar, Kohima, Aizawl, Imphal and Gangtok.
“Honoured to have laid the foundation stone for BCCI’s upcoming state-of-the-art indoor training facilities in the North-East,” Shah wrote on X.
Notably, budding cricketers from these region had to travel to centres in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai or Ahmedabad to train themselves during the monsoon season.
The BCCI had also set up North-East Cricket Development Committee, headed by Avishek Dalmiya, the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
“Our cricketers from six states — Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim — will soon benefit from world-class indoor nets, indoor swimming pools and fitness centres for year-round training options,” Shah added. “This, along with the launch of the new pavillion in Mizoram, are big steps towards our vision to enhance cricket infrastructure in the region, exciting times ahead.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is also in the process of developing a new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru with better area and facilities. No wonder, Shah will target to develop more academics in order to bring the elusive World Cup glory again.
