The journey of the boys varsity soccer team throughout the season was filled with challenges, victories, and a spirit that defines them as a team. From the beginning of the preseason, they faced opponents like Granada, enduring a tough 4-0 loss. But setbacks only fueled their determination, as the team captain Leo Mejivaar expressed: “I thought we were going to win because we had the drive, but we made mistakes, and I know we could’ve done better.”
As the team started to go to more games, they found their rhythm, securing a 2-0 victory against Oakland Tech. This win served as a catalyst, motivating them to move forward. Despite the adversaries, such as James Logan and Newark Memorial, the team represented resilience, especially by the goalkeeper, Barghav Balasubramanian’s saves.
Crucial moments during matches, like the 2-1 win over Mission San Jose, showcased the team’s true defensive and fighting spirit. Senior captain, Felix Cano reflected on this game, saying, “We didn’t win, but we worked together as a team, and we had fun, so it felt like we were winners.”
The season culminated in matches to reflect on, including a draw against American and a hard-fought tie against Kennedy. These games showed the teams journey which was filled with perseverance, camaraderie, and determination to give their all until the final whistle.
As the team bids farewell to their season, they do so with their heads held high, proud of their accomplishments and eager to build upon their experiences in the seasons to come. The season wasn’t about wins and losses; it was about lessons learned, bonds forged, and resilience that will continue to move them forward in and out of the field.
