Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi football team recorded a 5-1 win over Indonesia on Thursday in their first match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The match was held at Basra International Stadium in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
Iraq’s goals were scored by Ali Al-Hamadi in the 88th minute, Youssef Amyn in the 81st minute, Osama Rashid in the 60th minute, Jordi Amat in the 35th minute, and Bashar Rasan in the 20th minute.
Indonesia’s goal was scored by Shayne Pattynama at minute 45+3′.
The two teams have been drawn in Group F with Vietnam and the Philippines.
This is the first match between the two teams since Iraq achieved a 2-0 victory over Indonesia in Asia Cup qualifying in November 2013.
The two teams met in six previous matches, where Indonesia lost five of these matches and never beaten Iraq.
The sole draw between Iraq and Indonesia occurred in a World Cup qualifying match in March 1973, where the game ended in a 1-1 deadlock.
