Parag has already hit three fifties in five innings he has played so far with a best of 84 not out. His average has been an impressive 87 and a strike of 158 with 17 fours and 17 sixes as well.
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has backed Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag to make it to India’s T20 World Cup squad. Notably, ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played from June 2, right after the ongoing 2024 season of the Indian premier League (IPL). Parag, who is having a breakout season for RR, is currently second on the list of most runs scored with 261 runs in five games.
Speaking on his chances to play for India in the T20 World Cup, Jaffer, in a conversation with cricket website ESPNCricinfo, said: “Looking at his form, I won’t be surprised if selectors are considering him for the T20 World Cup. The way he has played shows consistency, and I won’t be surprised if we see him there.”

“Riyan Parag is emerging to be a sensational player in this IPL. It’s pretty refreshing to see a young player performing like this. He has performed in the domestic cricket for Assam, and he’s carrying that form. The no. 4 suits him better, as he gets some time to settle,” Jaffer added.
Explaining what has made Parag stand out this season, Jaffer said: “The hard work is showing. He is fitter, and he looks composed. His shot selection is good; he has faced significant trolling over the past few years; he also played the difficult role of a finisher, but the Royals kept their faith in him. It feels like he has the right number now, and he is in the right frame of mind, too. He looks dedicated to proving everyone wrong.”
