Inter Milan directors reportedly had a summit with the agent of Lautaro Martinez last week. However, the two parties have yet to reach a final agreement over a contract extension.
The Argentine has a contract that runs until June 2026. Yet, the Nerazzurri are looking to secure the captain’s services on a long-term agreement, while the striker is seeking a pay raise.
Therefore, the parties have been working on a new contract valid till 2029. Nevertheless, finding an economic accord is proving to be a more complicated task than initially envisioned.
According to Sky Sport Italia via FcInter1908. the Nerazzurri directors had a meeting with Lautaro’s agent Alejandro Camano last week.
However, the source reveals that the two parties failed to make any progress on their previous meeting in Madrid back in March.
The report talks about the same standstill, with Inter offering a yearly net salary of 8 million euros, while the player’s agent is holding out for 10M.
Earlier today, another report in the Italian media claimed Inter will announce the contract extension at the end of the season.
So we shall see if the parties will find a breakthrough in the coming weeks and reach a happy ending.
On another note, Sky discusses the latest on the Oaktree Capital loan which will expire by May 20th.
The source explains how Inter Milan president Steven Zhang has three options on the table.
The first would be refinancing the debt with the help of Primco who could replace Oaktree as creditors.
The second option is convincing Oaktree to extend the deadline.
Finally, the last scenario would see the American-based company take over the club, effectively replacing Suning.
But as the source notes, this remains the least likely option at this stage.
