Inter Milan-bound striker Mehdi Taremi has said goodbye to Porto ahead of his summer free transfer to the Nerazzurri.
The 31-year-old Iranian international confirmed in an interview with Portuguese broadcaster SportTV, via FCInterNews, that yesterday’s match against Boavista was his last at the Estadio do Dragao.
At the moment, Taremi is still a Porto player. The striker’s contract with the Portuguese giants runs until the end of June.
However, it is now only a matter of time before the Iranian’s time at his current club comes to an end.
Taremi has not signed an extension to his current deal with Porto.
Rather, the 31-year-old has long made his decision to instead sign a contract with Inter.
Therefore, at the end of June when Taremi’s current deal expires, he will become a Nerazzurri player.
Taremi has at least signed off in some style ahead of his summer departure from Porto.
The Iranian was on the scoresheet in the Portuguese club’s penultimate match of the season – and their final one in front of their home fans.
And it was no ordinary goal from Taremi.
Far from it, the 31-year-old scored late in stoppage time to seal a 2-1 comeback win over Boavista.
Taremi will still be on his way in the summer. But he has at least given the Porto fans something of a parting gift.
The striker admitted that “It’s an emotional goal, because it’s my last at the Dragao.”
“I’ll always be a Porto fan,” Taremi continued. “On and off the pitch.”
Taremi said that “The most important thing is always to win the match.”
“I’ve always tried to do my best for Porto.”
“It was beautiful to score like that, to win the derby in the final seconds,” Taremi added.
And the striker said that “I’ve always respected the Porto fans, which is why I decided to delay signing my contract [with Inter] for next season.”
“I know the fans were angry with me at times, but that’s normal.”
