BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WNDU) – Indiana head football coach Curt Cignetti is racking up more national coach of the year honors after leading one of the biggest turnarounds in FBS history.
On Tuesday, Cignetti was named The Associated Press Coach of the Year, collecting 30 of 45 votes from AP Top 25 voters. The honor comes after he was named Home Depot National Coach of the Year last week.
The Hoosiers, who went 3-9 last year and won only nine games in the past three seasons combined, currently boast a school-record 11 wins, a top 10 ranking and an improbable first playoff berth in Cignetti’s first season at the helm of the program.
He is also a finalist for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year alongside Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, who he will coach against in the first round of the College Football Playoff next Friday in South Bend.
The first-round matchup against the Irish is set to kickoff inside Notre Dame Stadium at 8 p.m. EST. The game will air on ABC/ESPN.
