Check out Indian football team’s latest FIFA ranking after their disappointing defeat to Afghanistan in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Indian football team’s slide in FIFA rankings continued on Thursday as they dropped down to 121 after the latest update which is its worst in recent years. The current slide has come as a result of their demoralising defeat and goalless draw to Afghanistan in two matches of 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Igor Stimac-coached India were ranked 102 in FIFA Rankings on 21 December 2023 before dropping 15 places to 117 after a disappointing AFC Asian Cup 2023 campaign in January where they lost all their three matches without scoring a single goal.
Indian men’s football team in fact has not won a match since beating Kuwait in World Cup Qualifiers in mid November 2023. They were expected to win their two matches against Afghanistan in the World Cup Qualifiers in March 2024. But the away game in Saudi Arabia ended in a goalless draw while the reverse fixture resulted in a 2-1 loss for India in Guwahati.
Despite the recent disappointing defeats, India are still alive in the race for reaching the Round 3 of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Remember India have never reached the Round 3 of World Cup Qualifiers.
Also, India’s worst FIFA ranking is 173.
Argentina continue to lead the FIFA Ranking followed by France, England, Belgium and Brazil.
