India vs Sri Lanka Highlights, Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: The India women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, face a must-win situation when they take on Sri Lanka in their third Group A match of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai on Wednesday.
The Women in Blue began with a heavy 58-run loss to New Zealand in their campaign opener, before beating Pakistan by six wickets in the second match on Sunday. However, India not only need a win against Sri Lanka, but a victory by a big margin if they are to keep their semi-final hopes alive. After this match, India face a serious challenge against defending champions Australia on Sunday (13 October).
India will need their openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana to fire on all cylinders, and their fielding must also improve drastically. Having said that, fielding has been one of the major reasons for India’s defeats not just in the ongoing tournament, but also in the past. India suffered a scare during their match against Pakistan after skipper Harmanpreet Kaur suffered a neck injury while batting.
Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, however, has eased injury concerns regarding the team’s captain and has said that she is ready for the Sri Lanka game. India are fourth in the standings with two points (NRR of -1.217), behind the likes of Pakistan and New Zealand who are also on two points. Australia lead the standings with four points from two matches.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have lost both their matches so far and lie fifth in the standings. Their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals look very slim.
