Here is the list of the highest wicket-takers in the T20 World Cup 2024 after the Super Eight match between India and Afghanistan in Barbados on Thursday.
ING vs AFG: Here’s the updated Super Eight Group 1 points table of the T20 World Cup 2024 after the match between India and Afghanistan.
Suryakumar scored 53 off 27 deliveries and Jasprit Bumrah picked three wickets to hand India a 47-run win.
Arshdeep from the other end. He is going to bowl the last over. SIX! Noor Ahmed gets a good connection after playing three dots. Arshdeep bowls two wides to delay the inevitable. Last ball of the match, OUT! Noor goes for an aerial shot and offers a catch to Rohit who does not miss an easy chance as India bowls out Afghanistan on 134 to start its Super 8 campaign with a thumping 47-run win.
Jasprit Bumrah to bowl his last over. He ends up bowling a maiden including a leg bye single. Bumrah registers the most economical spell by an Indian bowler in the T20 World Cup. He ends with 4-1-7-3.
T20 World Cup 2024: Bumrah bettered the previous record held by Arshdeep Singh who registered figures of 4/9 against USA.
Arshdeep Singh with his third over. A couple of dots to start the over before Noor takes a single in the third delivery. Arshdeep to Rashid, OUT! Angled out for Rashid as he tries to slash it past point but holes out to Jadeja at deep third. Naveen-ul-Haq is the new batter. Arshdeep to Naveen, OUT! Arshdeep gets a second wicket in two deliveries! On a hattrick as a failed pull attempt from Naveen helped Pant take an easy catch. Fazalhaq Farooqi is the last man in for Afghanistan. Arshdeep to Farooqi, FOUR! Lovely delivery, he should have deserved a hat trick but an outside edge runs for a boundary. 6 off this over.
Kuldeep Yadav into the attack. SIX! Nabi clobbered the slower ball over long-off for a big six. OUT! He tries for another big shot but boundary rider Jadeja’s safe hands are enough to send him back. Noor Ahmed is the new batter. FOUR! Good shot. Reads the ball early, and plays a reverse sweep with perfection to get off the mark. 12 off this over.
Nabi c Jadeja b Kuldeep Yadav 14(14)
Jasprit Bumrah comes with his third over. Bumrah to Najibullah, OUT! A wide yorker-length ball and Najibullah tries to squeeze on the offside but offers a straightforward catch to Axar at cover. Rashid Khan walks out at number eight. BYES FOUR! Another yorker but both Rashid and Pant miss. He gets off the mark with a single.
Najibullah c Arshdeep Singh b Bumrah 19(17)
Hardik Pandya with his second over. A dot to start the over. Banged in short by Hardik which hits Nabi in the helmet. A leg bye run. Hardik to Najibullah, SIX! Slower delivery from Hardik and clubbed nicely over deep square for a maximum. Afghanistan gets to 100. 10 off this over.
Jadeja continues with his third over. He keeps both batters quiet with wicket-to-wicket line and gives five singles and a couple.
Kuldeep bowls his third over. He gets one to spin away from the left-hander outside off and called wide. Kuldeep isn’t too happy with that call. SIX! And Najibullah adds salt to Kuldeep’s wounds with a slog sweep over deep midwicket for a maximum. Two singles off the last four balls of the over. AFG needs 98 from 42 balls.
Jadeja continues. OUT! Azmatullah drags this straight to the long-on fielder and Jadeja has his first wicket of the tournament.
Mohammad Nabi is in next. A single each for Nabi and Najibullah off consecutive deliveries. Four runs and a wicket from the over.
Azmatullah Omarzai c Axar Patel b Ravindra Jadeja 26 (20b 2×4 1×6)
Kuldeep again. Dragged to deep midwicket by Azmatullah for a single. OUT! High up in the air and taken by Pant. Gulbadin walks back.
Beaten! Googly and it beats Najibullah Zadran’s front-foot defence. FOUR LEG-BYES! Drifted down leg-stump and it deflects off the pad of the batter and beats Pant to run away for four extras.
Gulbadin Naib c Rishabh Pant b Kuldeep Yadav 17 (21b 1×4 1×6)
Ravindra Jadeja into the attack. SIX! Huge maximum by Azmatullah. In the slot, Azmatullah clears his front leg and deposits it over deep midwicket. This is pushed wide outside off-stump and Gulbadin swings and misses. Two dots to end the over.
Kuldeep Yadav into the attack. Flicked off the front foot by Azmatullah for a single through midwicket. Kuldeep has overstepped and called a no-ball. Free-hit for Gulbadin! FOUR! Gulbadin does well to flick this to the square-leg boundary. It looked like he had already decided he wanted to make use of the big gap in that area. Four singles after that boundary early in the over. Good comeback by Kuldeep.
Axar comes back. Azmatullah cuts close to the stumps and finds the backward point fielder. A single for Azmatullah at wide long-on as he doesn’t connect too well. This is cut away to deep point by Azmatullah for three runs. Kuldeep does well in the deep to save the boundary. Heaved away to deep square-leg by Gulbadin for two more to end the over. This time it’s Arshdeep with a sharp boundary-saving effort in the deep.
FOUR! Hardik Pandya comes into the attack and starts off with a half-volley. Azmatullah leans into it and cracks it through the gap in the cover region for a boundary. Hardik darts in a short one and loops up close to the point fielder off Gulbadin’s shoulder. Short again and Gulbadin now misses the pull shot. Another slower short delivery to end the over and Gulbadin lets it go through to the keeper.
Here comes Axar again. SIX! Maximum for Gulbadin to end the over. This was pitched too short and Gulbadin stayed on the back-foot and flicked this over midwicket.
Bumrah again. OUT! Zazai is gone. He gets a leading edge as Bumrah bowls a cutter. Ballooned to point. Azmatullah Omarzai comes in next. FOUR! Yorker, and somehow Omarzai jams his bat down and gets an outside edge that runs away to the boundary through the slip cordon. Two more dots to end the over.
Hazratullah Zazai c Ravindra Jadeja b Jasprit Bumrah 2 (4b)
Here comes Axar Patel. Three dot balls to start the over as Axar keeps it on the stumps. OUT! Driven and straight to the extra-cover fielder. Ibrahim has to go. Gulbadin Naib is in next. Wicket maiden for Axar. Super stuff!
Ibrahim Zadran c Rohit Sharma b Axar Patel 8 (11b 1×4)
Arshdeep continues. Ibrahim pushes this through cover for a single. Pushed to mid-off by Zazai for one more. FOUR! A bit of width and slapped by Ibrahim behind point for a boundary. DROPPED! Kohli drops Ibrahim at point on six and he can’t believe it. This was driven in the air and it burst through Kohli’s fingers over his head. A couple of singles to end the over.
Here comes Jasprit Bumrah. OUT! And he strikes off his second ball, and Gurbaz is gutted. Bumrah goes very wide outside off and Gurbaz gets a bottom edge as he tries to reach this one from the crease.
Ibrahim Zadran comes in next. Just a single from the over and the wicket.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz c Rishabh Pant b Jasprit Bumrah 11 (8b 1×4 1×6)
Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai will open the innings for Afghanistan. Arshdeep Singh with the ball. Angling away across off and called wide. FOUR! Audacious. Gurbaz steps out and just lifts this over the bowler’s head for his first boundary. Gurbaz charges down the wicket but Arshdeep digs it in and this angles away across him and beats his attempted slash through the off-side. Next one is another wide ball. Beaten! On a good length on off-stump and the ball just angles away a touch to beat Gurbaz’s outside edge. SIX! Gurbaz steps out again, this is a length ball and he pulls this over deep midwicket for a cracking maximum. Dabbed to short third by Gurbaz to end the over with a single.
I enjoy batting from (7-15 overs). That’s the most difficult phase, where the opposition bowlers look to control things. I like to take charge in that phase, I enjoy it. I started chewing my gum harder when he (Virat Kohli) got out. I just backed my game and my instincts. I have played a lot of cricket with him (Rohit Sharma) and now under him, he understands my game. He knows my game, so he sits back and enjoys it. It’s a good total. Let’s see what happens now.
India batter Suryakumar Yadav slammed the fourth fastest half-century of the ongoing T20 World Cup during a Super Eight match against Afghanistan in Barbados on Thursday.
Naveen to bowl the final over of the innings. A wide way outside off, an extra for India. Axar chases the next delivery but fails to connect. Axar shuffles across and hits the next on the full, gets two to deep point. FOUR! Axar hits the third through covers and picks the gap. Two runs down the ground on the fourth delivery. FOUR more! Axar waits for the slower ball and opens the bat face to take the ball over short third. Another wide from Naveen. Axar misses the last delivery, and Arshdeep wants a single. A quick relay from the keeper to Naveen allows the run out.
Fazalhaq to Jadeja, starts the over with two runs through the square-leg region. FOUR! Jadeja pulls and finds the gap between deep backward square and deep mid wicket. WICKET! Jadeja tries to jab at a slower bouncer and hits it straight to short third.
Ravindra Jadeja c Gulbadin b Fazalhaq 7 (5)
Arshdeep Singh starts off with a couple through the on side.
Naveen to Pandya, cuts the first to deep point for one run. Ravindra Jadeja sweeps from outside off, gets it to long on to get off the mark. Naveen strays down the leg and he will have to bowl that again. SIX! Pandya gets it in the slot and picks it up over mid wicket. GONE! Pandya has been given leg before. He goes up for a review. The ball tracker shows the ball is missing the leg stump, the angle saves Pandya. OUT! Pandya survives just one ball more. He holes out at deep covers.
Hardik Pandya c Azmatullah b Naveen 32 (24)
Fazalhaq Farooqi for his third. A slower delivery to start off, foxes Surya who misses his slog. Surya slices his slog through the off side, gets a single to long off. Pandya hits the third to deep covers for another single. SIX! Surya reads the slower delivery, stays in the crease and packs it over long on. FOUR!Fifty for Suryakumar Yadav off 27 balls with a boundary through long on. GONE! Surya slices to long off looking for another slog.
Suryakumar Yadav c Nabi b Fazalhaq 53 (28)
Noor Ahmed for his third over. Pandya on strike. Swats the first delivery down the ground, a single to long off. Surya goes inside out, does not middle it and settles for a single to deep covers. FOUR! Pandya chips the fourth over covers, no protection in the deep and Pandya gets a boundary. SIX! Down the ground and that has gone some distance. The ball needs replacement leading to a delay. 12 runs from the over.
Omarzai again. Surya chases a wide delivery and guides it to third man. Pandya with the second single to deep covers. SIX! Surya chips this full delivery over the bowler’s head. A wide outside off but the keeper fails to collect allowing another run. Pandya cuts the final delivery for another single.
Rashid for his final over. Surya picks a single to long on off the first delivery. BEATEN! Grip off the surface for Rashid and he beats the outside edge of Hardik Pandya. FOUR! After four dots, Rashid gives the slightest room to Pandya and he lashes it wide of deep cover.
Azmatullah Omarzai for the first time this innings. FOUR! Outrageous from Surya. It’s way outside off stump and he drags it through mid wicket with a flick of the wrist through mid wicket. FOUR more! Takes the aerial route and clears mid off. 12 runs from the over.
Naveen returns for his second over. Surya nudges to mid wicket for one. Pandya off the mark with a slice to get off the mark. An edge through backward point region for Surya brings the third single of the over. FOUR! Pandya threads the gap between covers and mid off. Trouble for Surya at the non-striker’s end, he might be run out. Pandya drives straight back and the ball deflects onto the stumps, Surya manages to get in with a dive. Just about! A single to end the over, eight from it.
Rashid to Surya, FOUR! On the pads and angling away, Surya picks it in a flash and gets another boundary. Another attempt at sweeping, this time Surya misses. SIX! The third delivery, the third sweep from Surya. This one flies over deep square. A single to covers on the fourth. LBW appeal as Dube misses a late cut. The umpire denies and AFG takes a review. The ball has clearly hit the pads first. Three reds on the ball tracker and Dube is gone.
Shivam Dube lbw b Rashid 10 (7)
Hardik Pandya is in next.

IND vs AFG: Virat Kohli becomes top run-scorer in T20Is for India

Virat Kohli became the leading run-scorer from his country in Twenty20 Internationals during a T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight match against Afghanistan in Barbados on Thursday.

Virat Kohli became the leading run-scorer from his country in Twenty20 Internationals during a T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight match against Afghanistan in Barbados on Thursday.
Noor to Dube, goes through covers for a couple. SIX! Down the ground, it is too full from Noor and he tonks it over long off. A single on the next to long on. Surya with two runs to long on. A single to finish the over.
Rashid to Kohli, uses his bottom hand to place it through covers for two runs. OUT! Straight into the hands of long off. He tries to go inside out but cannot get it square of the long off fielder. The big fish for Afghanistan.
Virat Kohli c Nabi b Rashid 24 (24)
Shivam Dube at No. 5. He drives to long off to get off the mark with a single. FOUR! Surya sweeps to great effect, gets the ball to the fence through square leg.
Noor Ahmed to bowl the next. Kohli picks a single to long off. Suryakumar Yadav whips to mid wicket to get off the mark. Noor strays down the leg side, wide given. A little length on offer and Kohli cuts to deep cover for one. A miscued cut from Surya on the fifth but it still gets him a single. Kohli jabs the final to deep covers for the fifth single of the over. Six runs from it.
Skipper Rashid Khan comes into the attack in place of Naveen-ul-Haq. Three singles off the first four deliveries. 50 up for India in the seventh over. Rashid to Pant, FOUR LEG BYES! Full and down the leg, Pant sweeps and gets a boundary off the pads. Rashid to Pant, OUT! Poor shot from a set-looking Pant who tries to play the reverse sweep. Pant goes for a review after consulting with Virat but looks like a desperate move. He departs after the review confirms his LBW!
Pant lbw b Rashid Khan 20(11)
Mohammad Nabi continues with his third over. Kohli gets a single. Nabi to Pant, FOUR! This is what India needs! Positive cricket. Pant plays a risky but effective reverse sweep to start the over with a boundary over backward point. Nabi to Pant, DROPPED and FOUR! Naveen makes a big mistake here. A full ball from Nabi and Pant slogsweeps it over the backward square and gets the second boundary in a row. Nabi to Pant, FOUR! Third boundary on the trot for Pant as he plays it over cover. Two dots to end the over as India scores 47 in the PowerPlay.
A first change in the bowling attack as Naveen-ul-Haq comes in place of Farooqi. Kohli cuts the short ball towards points for a double to start the over. This man can run all day. Naveen to Kohli, SIX! Ah, a cracking shot from Kohli who gets room this time and slaps the short ball over the bowler’s head for his first boundary of this innings. Nine from Naveen’s first over.
Mohammad Nabi continues. Kohli starts the over with a single. Pant drives the full ball over cover with wonderful control and gets three runs due to the slow outfield. Kohli gets a couple of doubles, he keeps the strike too with a single off the last delivery. Nine off this over.
Fazalhaq Farooqi continues from the other end. Farooqi to Rohit, LBW APPEAL! A slower one to start the over, Rohit goes for a slog sweep but the ball hits him in the thigh pads. Afghanistan reviews it but the ball was pitching outside leg. Afghanistan wastes its first review. A single in the next delivery. Farooqi bowls a WIDE before Kohli plays the third dot. He gets off the mark with a single in the fourth delivery of this over. Farooqi to Rohit, OUT! And again! India failed to get a good start, yet again. A length ball, was in the slot for Rohit, who was tempted to go for an aerial shot but miscued it, hitting straight to Rashid Khan at mid-on.
Rohit c Rashid Khan b Fazalhaq Farooqi 8(13)
In comes Rishabh Pant at number three. A wide from Farooqi. FOUR! Poor line from the bowler as Pant latches onto the ball which was going down the leg to open his account with a boundary.
Interesting choice from skipper Rashid Khan who brings Mohammad Nabi from the other end. The on-field umpires give a first warning to Afghanistan to breach the 60-second rule. Rohit takes a single in the second delivery to give the strike to Kohli. Kohli gets off the mark straightaway with a single, nope, it is leg byes so Kohli is yet to open his account. Just a single off the last three deliveries as Nabi leaks just three off his first over.
Fazalhaq Farooqi starts over the wicket. Rohit Sharma has the strike. A dot ball to start the match. Farooqi follows it up with a fuller-length ball on the sixth stump, Rohit tries to squeeze it, again a dot. This time in the middle line, Rohit drives it straight back to Farooqi. Rohit swings hard in the next delivery to play the length ball at long-on but misses the connection. FOUR! A good length ball in the middle, Rohit tries to tuck the ball but gets an outside edge which runs away past the short third fielder for a boundary. Rohit will keep the strike in the next over with a single off the last delivery. 5 off the first over.
Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open for India. Fazalhaq Farooqi has the white new ball for Afghanistan.
