India beat Bangladesh by 41 runs in the final to clinch the inaugural Women’s U-19 Asia Cup at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
Gongadi Trisha, one of the main reason for India’s triumph in the Women’s T20 World Cup last year in South Africa, scored a half-century as Niki Prasad and Co won the final in style.
After losing the toss, India was asked to bat first and could only manage 117 for seven on the board, with none of the batters, barring Trisha, getting a big score.
Opening the innings for India, Trisha scored 52 runs off 47 balls, including five fours and two sixes.
Mithila Vinod put in some late momentum with a crucial 12-ball 17.

For Bangladesh, fast bowler Farjana Easmin finished with figures of 4-0-31-4. Nishita Akter Nishi bagged two important wickets and ensured Indian batters did not dominate.
When it came to chasing the target, Bangladesh did not have the best of starts. Openers Fahomida Choya and Juairiya Ferdous scored 18 and 22 respectively, while captain Sumaiya Akter fell to Sonam Yadav, who picked two wickets along with Parunika Sisodia.
However, Aayushi Shukla, who finished the tournament as the top wicket-taker, was the star bowler for India, finishing with figures of 3.3-0-17-3.
After VJ Joshitha sent Eva to the pavilion for a duck in the second over, India did not look back.
Bangladesh’s innings crumbled as it lost its last seven wickets for 21 runs in 40 balls.
