Christ School’s Sam Browder, a three-star offensive lineman, writes for the Citizen Times in his own words why he signed with Memphis:
Memphis started recruiting me in the spring. I first got in contact with them in March. Our relationship built from there. I ended up getting down there on a visit in April, and that’s when they offered me. I got to see how cool the city of Memphis was and the program that they were building. I immediately connected with the coaches and knew it was a place I could see myself at.
After the school year, I narrowed my schools down and went on three official visits in June. Memphis was my first, and I had a great time, I got along good with the players, and it was nice to see the coaches again. I wanted a school that had football but also could prepare me for my time after. My (Christ School) head coach, Coach (Chad) Walker always reminded me “four years for the next 40,” and Memphis can provide that. I want to study business, and there are many opportunities in Memphis with large businesses like FedEx, AutoZone and Nike. The networking is endless, and I’m excited for the opportunities they can provide for me after football.
Football-wise, Memphis was consistently one of my top schools because I knew I could trust them with my development. With NFL offensive line experience throughout the whole program (strength staff, head coach, offensive line coach, assistant offensive line coach). I knew I could become the player I wanted to be. (Offensive line) Coach Jeff Myers is a great coach that has been a good friend to me and my family. We talk frequently about many different things, but ultimately I trust that he can make me the man and player I want to be. Along with that, (head) coach Ryan Silverfield has also been awesome to me and my family. I’m excited to get coached and mentored by him, too. I knew Memphis was the right place because of these coaches and the players I met. They have a culture and team that I want to be a part of, and I can’t wait to get to work in January.
