Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh‘s father Yograj Singh has come up with another controversial yet emotional statement on his son. Speaking on the Unfiltered by Samdish podcast (via NDTV), Yograj revealed what would have made him a proud father.
He said that had Yuvraj Singh died from cancer as India won the 2011 World Cup, he would have been a proud father. For context, Yuvraj’s health was not at its best during India’s 2011 World Cup campaign. The all-rounder was battling cancer throughout the tournament. It was only after the World Cup that he was treated and the world found out about the same.
While Yuvraj achieved immense success and numerous accolades for the country, his father still believes that his son did not realize his full potential.
India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final to win the 2011 ODI World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Yuvraj played a massive role in India’s triumph. Not only did he battle cancer while playing the tournament, but he also made an immense contribution with both the bat and the ball.
The left-hander slammed 362 runs with the bat at an average of 90.50 and a strike-rate of 86.19, including one hundred and four half-centuries. He also picked up 15 wickets at an average of 25.13, economy rate of 5.02, including a five-wicket haul.
For his incredible all-round performance throughout the tournament, Yuvraj was also awarded the ‘Player of the Series’ at the end of the World Cup.
