Former India star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh has made a scathing remark regarding 1983 ODI World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev. Yograj, who is often in the news for his controversial comments, said that he wanted to kill Kapil for dropping him from the Indian cricket team.
Notably, the 66-year-old played one Test and six ODIs for the Men in Blue during the tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1980-81. Yograj added that he decided to make Yuvraj a cricketer following the heated argument.
Yograj told ‘Unfiltered by Samdish’ (via Indian Express):
Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh further alleged that the likes of Kapil Dev and legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi plotted against him because he had close ties with the former skipper Sunil Gavaskar. He said in the same interaction:
Bedi passed away at the age of 77 in 2023.
Yograj added that he shared a WhatsApp message with Kapil Dev after India won the ODI World Cup after 28 years in 2011. He concluded:
Yuvraj Singh was adjudged the Player of the Tournament at the 2011 World Cup for his heroics with the bat and the ball. The southpaw also played a pivotal role for India at the 2007 T20 World Cup.
