Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has set his sights on leading Nigeria to their first-ever title at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled from October 17 to November 8, 2025.

Following a commendable performance throughout their campaign in the 2024 World Cup, Nigeria exited the tournament after a 2-0 loss to the USA. Notably, Nigeria was the only African side remaining, as Kenya and Zambia were both eliminated in the group stages.
Building on the team’s impressive third-place finish in 2022, Olowookere is determined to surpass previous achievements and make history on the global stage.
In a recent interview, Olowookere emphasized the importance of strategic preparation and collective effort.
He stated, “I have high hopes going to the World Cup. I have planned secretly with my players and technical team for us to create an upset in the World Cup by winning and doing better than what we did in 2022 but we were unable to achieve that.
It’s just a mission yet to be achieved, I want to make history and make Nigeria proud on the global stage.”
Drawing inspiration from the successes of Nigeria’s U-17 boys’ team, Olowookere believes that similar achievements are attainable for the female squad.
He remarked, “If the under-17 boys can do it, I don’t think it’s difficult for us to do for the female side.
We all want to rally round to achieve this feat, and that’s one of the missions we’ve planned for.”
The Flamingos have demonstrated significant potential under Olowookere’s leadership, notably with their strength in set-piece situations contributing to their success in previous tournaments.
As the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup approaches, the Nigerian team is focused on rigorous preparation and strategic planning, aiming to elevate Nigeria’s standing in international women’s football.
