Discussing the impact of conference realignment and a 12-team College Football Playoff.
Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s I-80 Football Show. On this show, we travel down I-80 to talk all things Big Ten Football. After every week of action, we will catch you up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players you should be paying attention to for the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
Happy Independence Day to those who celebrate. The July 4th holiday wasn’t the only thing worth celebrating this week, as a lot of schools across the nation celebrated their official entrance into their new conference, including Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC.
For the four new schools entering the Big Ten, those celebrations will have to wait until Aug. 1, but we’re inching closer to the start of the football season and a new era in the Big Ten Conference.
In other news, EA Sports dropped their official power rankings of the 25 highest-ranked teams, and of course they were controversial. They continued the trend of overranking Colorado for no good reason. We discuss which rankings we agreed with, and which ones we disagree with outside of Colorado — which are egregiously high.
With conference realignment becoming official, The Athletic dropped an article giving every school a ranking from negative five to five to identify who was hurt the most and who was helped the most by conference realignment. Ohio State was given the highest mark in the Big Ten at plus-four. Should that mark have gone to Penn State, or are the rich getting richer with the new conferences and the 12-team playoff?
Oregon was given a positive ranking, while USC and UCLA were deemed negatively affected by their new conference affiliation. Dante and Jordan debate the Athletic’s rankings and which they would change, including where they would rank the former Big Ten West schools like Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota.
In their weekly pitstop, the guys try and figure out why it’s so expensive to be healthy and lose weight. In this economy, you have to have a good salary just to afford a gym membership.
