The United States is seeking a second major cricket upset in a week at the T20 World Cup when it faces India on Wednesday on Long Island outside of New York City.
Last week, the No. 17-ranked Americans scored the nation’s biggest win on the cricket pitch by beating Pakistan, ranked seventh in the world, in a super over similar to a short overtime period. Left-arm bowler Saurabh Netravalkar, a software engineer at Oracle in his day job, helped steer the U.S. to victory by limiting Pakistan to 13 runs in the super over.
A win over top-ranked India, Netravalkar’s country of birth, would be an even larger upset. That match begins at 7:30 a.m. Pacific Wednesday.
The T20 World Cup, played every two years, is being held in the U.S. for the first time.
For those curious about the sport, the matches are airing on Willow TV in the United States. Willow is available as a $10/month add-on via Sling and Fubo or most television providers, including Xfinity, Dish and DirecTV.
If the U.S. can’t spring another big surprise win, it could still get into the Super Eight — the tournament’s next round — by beating Ireland on Friday.
