The 2024 OHSAA football state championships are officially here.
The slate of high school football title games starts today, Dec. 5, with Avon High School taking on Cincinnati Anderson in the Division II state championship.
Avon (15-0) punched its ticket to the title game by defeating Archbishop Hoban, 35-10. The win snapped a five-game losing streak against Hoban and put Avon in the state final showdown for the first time since 2011.
Anderson (also 15-0) reached the title game thanks to a late touchdown. Justice Burnam’s 1-yard TD run with 33 seconds left lifted Anderson to a 28-24 win in the state semifinal over Big Walnut, who dispatched the Massillon Tigers the week prior.
