After defeating the New England Revolution to establish a new MLS regular-season points record, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami advanced to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Messi and Miami established a new MLS record Saturday night, securing their place in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
With 74 points, Inter Miami broke the New England Revolution’s 2021 season record of 73 points and set a new MLS regular-season points record. Following Miami’s triumph on Saturday at Chase Stadium, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that Lionel Messi‘s side have guaranteed a place in the tournament next summer by claiming the MLS Supporters’ Shield and with the United States hosting the Club World Cup.
Inter Miami defeated the New England Revolution 6-2 on Saturday night thanks to a hat-trick from Lionel Messi, who came on as a substitute, a brace from Luis Suarez and a goal from Benjamin Cremaschi.

The Herons enjoyed their 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield victory with their supporters on the field at Chase Stadium after the game.
During the announcement, majority owner Jorge Mas was accompanied by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and club co-owner David Beckham. It was confirmed that Miami will be the final CONCACAF team to compete in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as the outcome of their normal season victory.
“I have three things to tell you,” Infantino said to the crowd. “The first, many congratulations for winning the Supporters’ Shield. The second, you will be qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. And third, you will be opening and hosting the opening game at the Hard Rock Stadium in front of 65,000 people!”
Liga MX teams Monterrey, Club Leon, and Pachuca are among the other CONCACAF teams competing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup while another MLS team Seattle Sounders will also compete. Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida will host the competition’s first game.
The following weekend, in the Round One best-of-three series, the Herons will play the prevailing team of the Eastern Conference wildcard match between CF Montreal and Atlanta United. They are going to have home-field advantage for the duration of the postseason as the top seed in the playoffs.
