WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross football team won their sixth-straight Patriot League title by beating Georgetown 34-0 on Saturday to finish 5-1 in the league and share the title with Lehigh.
The Crusaders and players say they love their sport, the contact, the hitting, the mental side of it, the discipline and, most of all, the close bonds that are forged and lifelong friendships that develop.
"From on the field, I love just running around and hitting people," said captain Frankie Monte. "[I] just really love the comradery and the amount of friendships and relationships that I’ve built throughout these last couple years. And all my life with football has been such a blessing, these relationships are going to be carried with me throughout my life."
"My favorite part about football is that it’s a family more than anything," said captain Joe Pesansky. "You know, the guys on this team they’re my family. [I have] never have I ever been a part of something like this. As I mentioned, I moved around a lot as a kid, moved every three to four years [and] lived in five states. So I never really had a home like I have here. Football is family to me."
