30th October 2024 – (Zurich) Chinese electronics giant Hisense has been announced as the first official partner for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, according to a statement released by the global soccer governing body on Wednesday.
The partnership marks a significant milestone as Hisense will also sponsor the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology during the tournament. This is the first time a FIFA tournament will feature a sponsor for video reviews since the technology was introduced at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Previously, Hisense had served as the official “VAR Screen Provider” at this year’s UEFA European Championship in Germany.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Club World Cup event next year is set to be an expanded affair, featuring 32 teams and scheduled to run from 15th June to 13th July in the United States.
Hisense, which is headquartered in Shandong, China, has been engaged with FIFA since 2017, growing its presence in the global sports arena. “We are delighted to welcome Hisense, a global market-leading brand, as an official partner of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the partnership announcement in Shanghai.
The tournament’s opening game will feature Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami team, adding star power and further boosting the event’s profile. FIFA also indicated that additional sponsorship announcements are expected in the weeks to come, signaling a robust commercial interest in the upcoming tournament.
