With a goal from Miguel Araujo, Peru defeated Uruguay 1-0 in the CONMEBOL Qualifiers
The referee added 5 more minutes from now on.
Renzo Garcés came on for Sergio Peña in Peru, while Luciano Rodríguez came on for Nahitan Nández in Uruguay
Piero Quispe sent the cross from the right and Miguel Araujo, alone on the edge of the six-yard box, headed it from point-blank range, the ball hit Rochet, bounced off the post and went in for the 1-0
Nahitan Nández received a yellow card in Uruguay
Luis Ramos and Jean Pierre Archimbaud came on for Alex Valera and Olivier Sonne
Valverde took the ball from the right towards the centre and shot with his left foot from outside the area. Pedro Gallese dived to his left and was able to catch it
Polo sent a cross from the right towards the far post, Sonne headed it towards the middle and Reyna, in an attempt to finish, missed the ball and Uruguay was able to clear

Only Pellistri’s runs created any danger in Peru’s box. The second half for the “Celeste” is emotionless
Piero Quispe and Bryan Reyna came on for Edison Flores and Alexander Callens
Núñez from Uruguay entered the area from the right, beat two opponents and sent a cross back, but goalkeeper Gallese was able to intercept it before it reached an opponent

Peña sent in the cross from the right, the ball was passed to Callens on the left who volleyed it, but Varela’s body managed to block the shot and he sent it to the corner
After a somewhat slow start, Facundo Pellistri began to generate depth on the right and made his team move a few meters ahead
They built the attack from the right to the left for Peña who went in and shot at the first post, but it went just wide
The second half began, once again, with Uruguay taking the lead in possession, but not changing the pace of their attacks and, due to the slowness of their passes, leaving Peru always in a good position.
The referee gave the order, the second 45 minutes are already being played
Facundo Pellistri came in for Cristian Olivera
With the partial goalless draw between Peru and Uruguay, the referee ended the first half
The referee added 1 more minute from now on.
Peña shot from outside the area, Rochet took the rebound short, but both Edison Flores and Alex Valera slipped when they were going to shoot
Polo overflowed on the right and sent the cross into the middle of the area, but defender Manuel Ugarte headed it away to prevent the rival goal
Federico Valverde surprised with a long-distance shot from the left side of the attack that went close to the left corner of Peru’s goal
After more than half an hour, Peru threatened Uruguay’s goal with a corner from the left that Zambrano headed without much power and ended up in Rochet’s hands
With Valverde already treated by the Uruguayan medical team, the referee allowed play to continue
Federico Valverde of Uruguay fell to the ground with a cut on his head from a blow from his opponent. The referee did not see it and did not sanction anything

For the first time in the match, Peru put together passes and reached the opponent’s area with the ball under control, but when he was about to shoot, Alexander Callens slipped and lost the ball
Peru tried to get out of the back line in the last few minutes to avoid suffering so much in defence. Uruguay can take advantage of the spaces they leave behind
Uruguay maintains control of possession, remains planted in the opponent’s half and presses against a Peru that cannot leave its field
Uruguay recovered the ball in their own half and ran out 3vs2 against a poorly-armed Peruvian defence. Georgian de Arrascaeta received the ball on the right, crossed it into the middle of the area and Carlos Zambrano managed to clear it to prevent the visitors from scoring.
Uruguay had a better start, staying in the opponent’s half and with more possession.

Darwin Núñez, the scorer who received a provisional permit to be part of the call-up, will seek to help his country continue to climb positions until reaching Argentina. The 25-year-old forward was not present in the last FIFA double date due to the suspension received in the Copa América, but he will be present again to surpass the five goals and two assists that he has contributed in six matches played. In total he has 13 sacred goals and three assists in 29 appearances with Uruguay.
Yoshimar Yotún, one of the authors of the two goals that the team has in these CONMEBOL Qualifiers, will seek to replicate what he has been doing at club level to get his country out of the bottom of the table. The 34-year-old midfielder has three goals and three assists in the last seven matches played with Sporting Crystal and, in addition, is one of the scorers that the “Albirroja” has after scoring in the 1-1 draw against Venezuela in the last FIFA date.
These two teams have faced each other 70 times over the years between World Cup matches, Copa América, CONMEBOL Qualifiers and international friendlies. Of the total, Uruguay has won 38 times, Peru has won 16 times and the remaining 15 times ended in a draw. The last time they met was on March 24, 2022 in the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. The “Celeste” won 1-0 at home.
For its part, the “Celeste” arrives at a strange time since in football they have improved considerably since the arrival of their coach, they played a great role in the Copa America and are third in these CONMEBOL Qualifiers with 15 points from four wins, three draws and one loss. However, on the human side it is not the same case since in recent weeks a bomb exploded due to strong statements by Luis Suárez in which he criticized Marcelo Bielsa and spoke of a bad person. From that moment, both the current squad, as well as former players from Uruguay or those led by Bielsa came out to speak and a big problem was generated around that.
The “Albirroja” arrives at this match in one of the worst moments in history with very poor performances and even more negative results that left it as the last in the table of positions of these CONMEBOL Qualifiers. They left the Copa America group stage after two defeats and a draw after having played a great series of friendlies with three wins and a draw. In this competition they are at the bottom with only three points from three draws and five losses. They scored two goals and received ten in these eight games.
The match between Peru vs Uruguay for the ninth matchday of the CONMEBOL Qualifiers will take place at the National Stadium of Peru, popularly known as the José Díaz Stadium, the National Stadium of Lima or simply the National Stadium, located in the Santa Beatriz urbanization, in the district of Lima, the city of the same name, capital of Peru. It has a maximum capacity of up to 43,086 spectators.
