The Papua New Guinea National Team has never played a World Cup in its history. It has participated 5 times in the OFC Nations Cup, finishing runner-up in 2016. His best results were obtained playing the Pacific Games and the Melanesia Cup, where he was champion in 2022. The PNG National Football Stadium was built in 2016 by the architectural firm Popolous. The idea is for it to be used for soccer, volleyball, touch 7s and rugby league matches. The renovation has given the stadium a new visual appeal, using the traditional Papua New Guinean colors of black, red and yellow in textures and patterns. It is the home of a local Papua New Guinean team, called the ‘Hunters’. Since its construction it has had the possibility to host 2 very important events for the development of the country: FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2016 and the Rugby League World Cup 2017.
