The Hayden Tigers football team played just its second home game of the season Friday night against a challenging Rangely opponent under the lights.
Hayden struggled to keep up with a strong Panthers run game and a suffocating defensive line in the 36-12 loss.
Down 28-0, it was not until the third quarter when the Tigers managed their first score of the game. Sophomore quarterback Peyton Johnson hit Carson Campbell, sophomore, on a fourth-down conversion, leading to a rushing touchdown for Johnson on a QB keeper.
Hayden would find the end zone one more time in the game thanks to Johnson’s 70-yard rush down the right sideline in the fourth quarter, which put Hayden in a great spot for Johnson to punch the ball into the end zone a handful of plays later.
With the loss, the Tigers drop to 2-4 on the season and will host Soroco for a rivalry matchup Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
