KARACHI: Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori on Friday, rewarded the national men’s blind cricket team with a prize money of PKR 500,000 upon winning their maiden T20 World Cup title last month.
According to the details, Tessori invited the blind cricket team, alongside the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) officials to the Governor House here and awarded them with the cash prize.
During the meeting, Governor Sindh lauded the national team’s commanding performance in the mega event as they boasted an unbeaten campaign to clinch their maiden title.
“All the players of the Pakistani team that remained undefeated in the Blind T20 World Cup are our national heroes,” said Tessori.
“Our blind cricketers, whose morale are as high as the mountains, gifted the nation with the World Cup,” he added.
Governor Sindh further announced that he would request the Government of Sindh to reward a cash prize of PKR 500,000 to each member of the national blind cricket team.
PBCC chairman Syed Sultan Shah gave a briefing regarding the performance of the team in the World Cup and thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its unwavering support in the development of blind cricket.
“The role of Pakistan Cricket Board in fostering blind cricket is exceptional. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also assured his full support,” said Shah.
For the unversed, Pakistan won their maiden Blind T20 World Cup title last month by outclassing Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the final.
As a result, Pakistan become only the second team to win the Blind T20 World Cup, joining arch-rivals India, who have lifted the title three consecutive times.
