Vestal is Section 4’s lone remaining hope for a state title in girls soccer after beating Section 9 champion Goshen, 1-0, in a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA regional final Saturday at Wallkill High School.
Ava Schmidt scored the only goal with 14 minutes, 5 seconds remaining in the opening half.
The Golden Bears (13-3-2) will play Section 2 champion Columbia in a state semifinal at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden. Columbia beat Section 3’s East Syracuse-Minoa, 3-1, in their regional final.
Vestal captured its first regional title since 2018.
The Bears shared the Section 4 title this season with Horseheads, advancing to Saturday’s game on penalty kicks.
Charlotte Keenan scored three goals as Section 1 champion Rye topped Chenango Valley in a Class A regional final at Union-Endicott High School.
Claire Nemsick, Alessia McKinnon and Joy DeSanto also scored for Rye (19-2-1), the defending Class A state champion.
Keenan scored her second and third goals five minutes apart to put Rye up 4-0 with 31:19 remaining.
Rye will face Section 3 champ New Hartford in a state semifinal at noon Nov. 16 at Cortland High School.
Chenango Valley closed with a 14-2 record.
Section 1 champion Bronxville got a goal from Carson Kochansky seconds into the game and went on to end Waverly’s season at Union-Endicott’s Ty Cobb Stadium.
Kalliroi Ladas put Bronxville (15-5-1) up 2-0 late in the first half, then scored her second goal with 10:15 remaining off an assist from Kochansky.
Bronxville faces Section 3 champ Marcellus in a semifinal at 5 p.m. Nov. 16 at Cortland High School.
Waverly finished with a 13-5 record.

Cassia Schuyler scored three goals as Section 3 champion Cincinnatus improved to 21-0, topping Elmira Notre Dame in a Class C regional final at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta.
The Crusaders finished with a 13-3 record after winning their second sectional title in the last four seasons.
Cincinnatus, ranked fourth in the state in Class C, will play Section 2 champion Stillwater in a state semifinal at noon Nov. 16 at Homer High School. Cincinnatus won the Class D state title last year.
Section 3 champion Copenhagen scored the only goal on a penalty kick with 25 minutes remaining to down Section 4 champ South Kortright/Andes at the Wright campus.
Copenhagen will play Section 10’s Colton-Pierrepont in a state semifinal at 5 p.m. Nov. 16 at Homer High School.
