Two players from state semifinalist Vestal and four first-team selections are among Section 4 players named to the girls soccer all-state team, as chosen by the New York State Sports Writers and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.
Vestal’s picks were led by senior forward Ava Schmidt, a third-team selection who scored the lone goal in the Golden Bears’ 1-0 win over Goshen in a Class AA state quarterfinal. Vestal was Section 4 co-champion along with Horseheads.
Also for the Golden Bears, senior defender Addison Stockwin was a fourth-team choice.
First-team picks from Section 4 were Unatego senior forward Lizzie Craft in Class C, along with three Class D players: Franklin sophomore forward Shannon Kingsburgy, Edmeston/Morris senior midfielder Hannah Wist, and South Kortright/Andes senior goalkeeper Addy Eckert.
The all-state team was edited by Perry Novak of NYSSCOGS based on nominations from across the state. A total of 18 players from Section 4 were chosen, with Watkins Glen joining Vestal with two picks.
