As AC Milan’s process to hire a new head coach continues, it is increasingly apparent how far and wide the net has been cast in the hopes of finding the right profile.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes that Paulo Fonseca is currently the main candidate to take over from Stefano Pioli at the end of the season and lead Milan into a new era, but he is far from the only name on the club’s radar.
In recent weeks Milan have evaluated many other coaches and obtained information on several profiles. The most surprising perhaps is Lionel Scaloni, who became a World Cup winner with Argentina in Qatar.
Milan consider him a coach with the right identikit – charming, ambitious, with modern ideas – and contacted him through his agents. There were no face-to-face meetings, only telephone contacts, but the operation would not be impossible.
Of course, Scaloni would only arrive at the end of the Copa America (final set for 14 July) but he would be willing to leave Argentina to coach the first club side of his career. With that, though, comes an element of risk that Milan are aware of, knowing they need to get this appointment right.
This team is a joke.
The management are jokers…. but i still wont believe all these coaches linked to Milan until the seqson ends and market opens and heard report from any of zlantan moncada and furlani, scolani or jerry himself. Till then all is rumour
I think they’re getting it all wrong again. Fonseca to me isn’t the right man to lead Milan. He didn’t have the best time with roma. Scaling was gifted a world cup through messi. I don’t think he’d be good either.
