FRANKENMUTH, Mich. (WNEM) – The saying goes, life is ten percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react.
Last week, Justin Severs found out he has stage four lung cancer. His reaction; it’s time to fight.
And the same goes for the Frankenmuth community including the Eagles football team.
Severs assists varsity on Friday nights, is an assistant coach for JV and has been involved with Muth youth for over five years.
It’s very clear, he’s respected by both his peers and players.
They tell us they’re hoping to help their coach by tapping into the same teamwork he embodies both on and off the field.
“As part of the football team and everyone in this community, he’s one of the guys that you can really look up to,” Frankenmuth senior wide receiver and defensive back Tanner Kroeger said. “It’s super important to help him as much as we can.”
Eagles Head Coach Phill Martin added, “One of those guys dedicated to always wanting to do what’s best for kids, best for our community, best for the program. One of those guys that are always positive you know, regardless of what’s going on. He’s a great member of our community. Well respected in the community, does anything for anybody. You name it you know, he’s one of those guys that’s just dedicated to everyone here in the community.”
