Haji Wright’s absence will continue for Coventry City heading into FA Cup play this weekend.
Wright is training individually, but remains out of group training, manager Frank Lampard confirmed Friday. Lampard, who took over as Sky Blues boss in December, did not provide a date for Wright’s return, hinting that the team wants him to be fully comfortable before stepping back onto the field.
“Haji is not back on the grass yet,” Lampard told reporters Friday, transcribed by the Coventry Telegraph. “It’s a difficult injury, an impact and we’re just making sure he’s comfortable before he goes out. So he’s actually been in this week doing a lot of cardio and doing what he can. So I haven’t got a clear date for you on that before he gets on the grass.”
The U.S. men’s national team forward has been out of action since early November after suffering an ankle injury. Wright scored seven goals for Coventry City prior to his injury but now has a new manager after Mark Robins was relieved of his duties on November 7.
His absence also ruled him out of one USMNT camp last fall.
Coventry City hosts Sheffield Wednesday in FA Cup third round action on Saturday before facing Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers, and Watford in its final EFL Championship matches of January.
The Sky Blues sit 16th in the league table, six points clear of the relegation zone.
