Adam Ammour in second place ahead of Johannes Lochner
Winterberg (RWH) A new track record for his 50th World Cup victory in 2-man bobsleigh: Olympic, World and defending World Cup Champion Francesco Friedrich (GER) has reached another milestone in his sporting career at the IBSF World Cup in Winterberg: his victory in the fourth race of the season in 2-man bobsleigh was his 50th time on the top step of the World Cup podium. If you add the eight World Championships titles and two Olympic victories in the small sled, Friedrich now has 60 victories in major races.
With push athlete Alexander Schüller, Francesco Friedrich improved his own start record in Winterberg by more than three-tenths of a second to 54.05 seconds in the first run.
In second place in Winterberg: Adam Ammour (GER, 0.21 seconds back). Johannes Lochner (GER, 0.62 seconds back), the 2023 World Champion, finished third with push athlete Joshua Tasche.
Michael Vogt of Switzerland finished seventh in his comeback to the IBSF World Cup with push athlete Andreas Haas – tied with teammates Timo Rohner/Gregory Jones (SUI) and the Austrians Markus Treichl/Sascha Stepan.
Francesco Friedrich (GER, 875 points) leads the overall IBSF World Cup standings 2024/25 after four of eight races, ahead of Johannes Lochner (GER, 845) and Brad Hall (GBR, 786).
Francesco Friedrich (GER): ‘We are very satisfied. The first run in particular was really good. Now we are looking forward to the 4-man bobsleigh here in Winterberg and then to St. Moritz, which is always one of the most beautiful stops on the World Cup circuit.’
Adam Ammour (GER): ‘After my training crash here, it was definitely not an easy race. Without my team, it would certainly not have gone so well. Now we can show that we are back.’
Johannes Lochner (GER): ‘That was nothing today, the start didn’t work at all. In both runs, we were too much on the right after the start groove – you have a very bad angle into curve zero then. That just destroys your speed.’
