THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) – A former Thomasville High School football player was killed in a car crash in Leon County in Florida on Wednesday, June 26.
On Friday, June 28, WALB spoke with Jonathon Delay, the head football coach of Thomasville High School, who said that 19-year-old Demorrio “DJ” Thurman was a good wide receiver and cornerback, but an even better person.
“I got good grades, good heart. I might not be as sizey but I’m gonna play, I’m gonna play hard every time,” Thurman said in a past WALB Sports Talk.
In September 2022, Thurman was named WALB’s Play of the Week:
“This week’s WALB Play of the Week goes to DJ Thurman of the Thomasville Bulldogs. Thurman would catch the pass, go down the sideline tiptoeing to stay in bounds and get all the way to the endzone for the touchdown.”
The crash happened on Thomasville Road in Leon County on Wednesday, June 26, at around 2:34 p.m. DJ’s car, “lost control for unknown reasons,” according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Coach Delay says the whole team, school, and community are hurting, and are thankful to have known such a wonderful person.
