Former Mater Dei football coach Frank McManus appears to have found a landing spot.
McManus will coach defensive backs this coming season at Golden West College, Rustlers coach Nick Mitchell said on Thursday.
“Frank might be finishing up the paperwork, but yes he will be coaching with us this season,” Mitchell said.
McManus’ future has been a talking point since he was dismissed in April after one season as Mater Dei’s coach. Last fall under McManus, the Monarchs (13-1) claimed CIF-SS Division 1 and CIF State Open Division championships.
McManus coached defensive backs at Mater Dei before replacing the retired coach Bruce Rollinson.
In late April, Mater Dei hired former Long Beach Poly coach Raul Lara to replace McManus.
McManus isn’t the only ex-Trinity League coach joining Mitchell’s staff. Former Servite, Corona del Mar, Lakewood and Long Beach Wilson coach Scott Meyer will coach the Rustlers’ linebackers, Mitchell said.
Golden West College finished 8-3 last season.
