The outstanding campaign in Copa America landed James Rodriguez with an opportunity to commence his second LA Liga stint. Rodriguez, who spent a considerable period (2014-2020) with Real Madrid, joined Rayo this time as a free agent. However, as things turned out, after a spell of no activity, Rodriguez has shifted his harbor to Mexico.

“Rayo Vallecano de Madrid and Club Leon of Mexico have reached an agreement for the transfer of James Rodriguez,” the Spanish club said in a statement.
They did not give any details of the deal.
“From the club we wish James the best of luck in his new stage,” the club added.

The 33-year-old, who played 125 times for Real Madrid from 2014-2020, only made seven appearances for Rayo this season before ending his contract.

James Rodriguez became a revelation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, following which he was roped in by Real Madrid. His first season with Los Blancos was brilliant, where he was a key figure in the midfield under Carlo Ancelotti. He scored some of the outrageous bangers and also turned playmaker on several occasions. However, following the culmination of the season, he struggled to find a place in the side. Under Zinedine Zidane, he became a certified substitute, but less play time forced him to take a move to FC Bayern Munich, where as well he yearned for minutes. After spending two seasons with Bayern, he returned to the Spanish capital but failed to make a place among the starters. After ending his stint with Real Madrid, he has had several unstable stays at clubs from different parts of the world. While his club career needs a pickup, he has remained ever consistent for his country.
