LANSING, Mich. (WILX/Gray News) – Former Central Michigan University quarterback Tommy Lazzaro was killed in a hunting incident on Dec. 22, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed.
The deadly incident happened at Eglin Air Force Base in Walton County, Florida, on Sunday afternoon.
The 27-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said it appears to have been a tragic hunting accident.
All individuals involved remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
Lazzaro played for the Central Michigan University Chippewas for four seasons.
At the end of his playing career, he joined the U.S. Army and since climbed up the ranks to sergeant.
A ceremony honoring Lazzaro was scheduled for Saturday in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
