When a motorcycle parked up on a paddock stand rolled into the road, one man was able to save it from harm
As the 2024 Cricket World Cup enters its final stages, there will no doubt be some outstanding and heroic catches being produced as South Africa, Afghanistan, India, and England all look to win the greatest prize in T20 cricket. However, we reckon this catch might beat them all.
Everyone has their heroes, and a fair number of them have worn the number three. From Grand Prix and Superbike racing’s Max Biaggi to NASCAR’S Dale Earnhardt, and from motocross’ Eli Tomac to road racing’s Joey Dunlop, the #3 has been assigned to heroic figures from across motorsports, and even the most football-illiterate will be aware of the likes of Paolo Maldini and Roberto Carlos. It should come as little surprise, then, that this anonymous hero is wearing a #3 shirt.

Indeed, the motorcycle our anonymous hero saved is a Yamaha MT-03 — which to the owner’s credit is among the best small capacity naked bikes we reckon you can buy — and so it all fits together quite neatly, really.
The man’s action was required when the unfaired Yamaha rolled forward on its paddock stand while parked on a roadside. The front wheel rolls down the kerb and into the road, but when the rear wheel gets to it, it rolls down and detaches the paddock stand. Now destabilised, the bike continues to roll into the road and leans right. It looks destined to take a painful fall on its right side when our #3 hero turns up and pulls off an excellent catch to no doubt save the owner a few quid in repairs.
On the other hand, what the owner saved in repairs they probably lost in beers — a few were certainly owed for this save!
