Aiming to bounce back from their previous fortunes in this campaign, Gabon will host Gambia at the Stade de Franceville at the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday evening.
Kick-off is at 21:00.
Gabon dropped points in these qualifiers after they lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast at the Amadou Don Coulibaly Stadium on Friday. Their record goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a return however it was not to be as the team did not register a goal in that encounter.
The Panthers are second in Group F with six points, three behind the leaders after three matches.
Thierry Mouyouma’s side have now gone three games without a win in all competitions, with a draw against Congo sandwiched between defeats to Senegal and Ivory Coast.
Their record against Gambia is exactly encouraging as they’ve lost twice and won once in their last three meetings. The Scorpions recently had an emphatic victory over the Seychelles on Saturday, beating them 5-1.
It was Johnathan McKinstry’s first game in charge after taking over for Tom Saintfiet, who resigned as Gambia’s head coach after five years following the country’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations group stages.
McKinstry’s next challenge will be to secure a positive result against Gabon in order to move up from second-bottom in Group F.
