Colorado’s rebuilt defensive line has gotten bigger.
Former Louisville defensive lineman Tawfiq Thomas announced his verbal commitment to head coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes on Friday.
During his two seasons with the Cardinals, the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Thomas played in 22 games, recording 12 tackles in 207 defensive snaps. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
A three-star prospect coming out of Gaither High School in Tampa, Fla., in 2022, Thomas had 18 scholarship offers, including from Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas, Miami and Michigan. A two-time all-conference and all-state player in high school, he had 200 career tackles and was named a captain his senior year.
Of the eight defensive tackles on CU’s roster, six are transfer newcomers.
Taurean Carter (Arkansas), Anquin Barnes (Alabama) and Chidozie Nwankwo (Houston) all joined the team in January and went through spring practices. Rayyan Buell (Ohio), BJ Green (Arizona State) and Thomas are all set to join the team in the summer.
Senior Shane Cokes and junior Amari McNeill are both back after playing last season with the Buffs.
