Football rankings: Vintage rises after big win; Cardinal Newman remains No. 1 – The Santa Rosa Press Democrat

The Crushers may be one of the most underrated teams in the area and will look for another big upset this week.
As expected, Week 10 of the high school football season provided some of the biggest changes The Press Democrat’s rankings have seen in the last few weeks.
Vintage High School in Napa was the big winner last week, securing a marquee win over San Marin, 17-7, in the Redwood Empire Conference Adobe division. The Crushers may be one of the most underrated teams in the area and will look for another big upset this week as host to top-ranked Cardinal Newman.
The Cardinals stumbled for the first time this season last week in a 13-3 loss to Marin Catholic. Despite the loss, Newman stays the No. 1 team for its body of work, which includes wins over Windsor, Casa Grande, Rancho Cotate and San Marin.

American Canyon slides down to No. 6 this week after falling to Casa Grande 26-14 in a battle of the two first-place teams in the REC-Valley. The Gauchos can wrap up the league title with a win over Petaluma this week. While the league title is now out of reach, the loss actually benefits the Wolves for the playoffs. They were the 8 seed in Division 2 before the loss but now appear headed for a higher seed in Division 3.
St. Vincent jumps American Canyon mainly due to the Mustangs’ win over Ukiah, which is the best win between the two teams.
