Union, N.J. (11/2/24) – The Kean University football team fell to visiting Franklin & Marshall College by the final of 34-14 on Saturday afternoon in the last non-conference matchup of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean started off on the right foot, scoring on their first possession. The Cougar defense set up the offense with great field position as Sean Mena forced a fumble early that was recovered by Nick Atchison deep in Diplomat territory. Kean then took three plays to score as Robbie Nungesser‘s 16-yard pass found John Kountouris wide open for the first strike of the day.
F&M then took almost 10 minutes off the clock using 18 plays and 83 yards to tie the score at seven-all.
The Diplomats took the lead early in the second quarter as Jake Fant found Will Higson with an eight-yard reception to complete a nine play, 80-yard drive.
They would go on to score again just before the intermission with a 38-yard field goal off the foot of Laurence Miller.
F&M intercepted the Cougars early in the third quarter and would turn that opportunity into three points, as Miller connected on a 22-yard field goal to push the lead to 20-7.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Diplomats again took a large chunk of time off the clock, this time with a 10-minute possession that was capped by a Fant one-yard plunge and a 27-7 lead.
Franklin & Marshall scored their last points with just under seven minutes to go as Aaron Rascoe rushed for four yards to complete a short 35-yard possession.
Kean closed out the scoring on the next possession as Rocco Pellegrini used a quick offense surge and found Kountouris, Matt Vingara and Aly Marzouk for 11, 17 and two yards respectively. Marzouk’s catch and George Chrissafis‘ extra point ended the scoring for the afternoon (34-14).
