Florida Gators defensive lineman Michai Ishmael Boireau was arrested in Georgia this past weekend after he allegedly led police on a chase that reached 150 mph and ultimately crashed into another vehicle.
Boireau, an 18-year-old incoming freshman, was initially clocked by an officer driving 86 mph on I-75 at about 10 p.m. ET in Monroe County on Saturday, according to a police report cited by the Monroe County Reporter.
Instead of pulling over, he turned off his lights and hit the gas, police said.
The defensive lineman “drove recklessly, radically changing lanes and driving through traffic at speeds of more than 100 mph, passing vehicles on the shoulder,” the report said.
He allegedly led police on a chase for several miles, pulling over in a rest area and coming to a near stop before gunning it back onto the highway.
Eventually, police discovered a Malibu that had been rear-ended and an injured 58-year-old man.
Police then observed Boireau walking on the shoulder and his BMW on the side of the road.
Boireau reportedly told police that he was on his way to school in Florida and that he did not pull over because he was driving on a suspended license.
A small amount of marijuana was found in his vehicle.
Boireau was released on $60,000 bond this Monday.
He faces a litany of charges, including DUI-drugs, serious injury by vehicle, fleeing and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, per the Monroe County Reporter.
Boireau played high school football at Creekside High in Atlanta and enrolled at Florida this past January.
