OXFORD — Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin predicted a big few days in recruiting. It has come to fruition.
Caleb Cunningham, a 2025 five-star wide receiver and the Clarion Ledger’s No. 1 Dandy Dozen selection, committed to Ole Miss on Wednesday. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Cunningham, who plays for Choctaw County and is from Ackerman, Mississippi had been committed to Alabama.
Kiffin anticipated the Rebels would make waves in recruiting after beating Georgia 28-10 last week. Cunningham was part of the record crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for the game.
Cunningham is the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation per 247Sports Composite rankings. He is behind Dakorien Moore, who is committed to Oregon. Cunningham is the No. 16 overall player in the class of 2025.
“There’s been a lot of excitement amongst recruits that were here (for the Georgia game) or on TV,” Kiffin said Wednesday. “It was a highly viewed game. A lot of them were excited about the style that we won in. There’s a really bright future here. I think Austin (Simmons) coming in and playing the way he did made people excited about the future here.”
Simmons, a redshirt freshman, led an important 75-yard scoring drive against Georgia. The performance bodes well for Ole Miss’ future after quarterback Jaxson Dart finishes his eligibility after the season.
Cunningham has been dominant for Choctaw County, setting season records for receptions (48) and receiving yards (1,138) in 2023. He is the only five-star recruit in Mississippi.
