Olympic Champion Hannah Neise second in Yanqing, Freya Tarbit defends World Cup lead
Yanqing (RWH) Skeleton athlete Dan Zhao from China has celebrated her first victory in the IBSF World Cup on her home track, the Yanqing Sliding Center in Beijing. The 21-year-old, who finished ninth at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, beat Olympic Champion Hannah Neise of Germany (0.37 seconds back) to second place with the best times in both runs.
Great Britain’s Freya Tarbit (0.41 seconds back), tied with Dan Zhao after the first run at the Yanqing Sliding Center, fell back to third place in the final run.
Tabitha Stoecker (GBR), 2018 Olympic silver medallist Jacqueline Pfeifer (GER) and defending World Cup title holder Kimberley Bos (NED) completed the top six. World Champion Hallie Clarke of Canada finished seventh in Yanqing.
A total of 30 athletes from 14 nations competed in the third race of the 2024/25 IBSF World Cup season.
In the overall IBSF World Cup 2024/25 standings, Freya Tarbit (GBR, 617 points) defended her lead with her second podium finish in the third race of the season. Hannah Neise (GER, 596), who won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2022, is second overall after three of eight races in the pre-Olympic winter, ahead of Dan Zhao (CHN, 545).
