Argentina consolidated its position at the top of CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification table with a 1-1 away draw over Venezuela at the Estadio Monumental de Maturin in Maturin on Friday.
La Albiceleste took the lead in the 13th minute from a sublime Lionel Messi free-kick which forced Venezuela custodian Rafael Romo to punch it away into the path of Nicolas Otamendi, who slots it home from the edge of the six yard box.
The match kicked-off after a delay of over 30 minutes due to “bad weather” after the pitch was waterlogged due to heavy rain.
