FIFA WC’26 Qualification, CONMEBOL: Vinicius Jr.’s dismal run in national colours continue, as the Ballon d’Or 2024 runner-up missed a crucial penalty for Brazil in their Round 11 fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualification CONMEBOL against Venenzuela.
The miss proved to be costly, as Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by the hosts. With the result, Brazil now sit 3rd in the table but can drop down to 4th if Uruguay manage to steal points off Colombia in their Round 11 fixture.

Brazil had merely gathered form after a string of poor results, with their wins over Chile and Peru, but are now back to square one, as the 5-time World Champions have now recorded 2 draws and 6 defeats in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualification CONMEBOL campaign.
On a night where 10 Brazilians failed to dazzle, Raphinha stood out with an astonishing performance, as the FC Barcelona winger scored Brazil’s only goal of the match against Venezuela.
The goal was a thing of beauty, as Raphinha was wearing the iconic number 10 shirt of Brazil previously worn by the likes of Pele, Zico, and Neymar, and honoured it by scoring a world-class free-kick in the first-half to give Brazil the lead.
Raphinha is arguably enjoying the best season of his life and has touched double-digit mark for goals as well. The Brazilian has now scored 15 goals and provided 9 assists in 20 matches across all competitions.
