The FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Dominican Republic 2024™ continues to smile on the Nigerian Super Flamingos. After a remarkable start with a resounding victory against New Zealand (4-1), the Nigerians shone again, this time by largely dominating Ecuador with a clear score of 4-0 in their second match of the tournament.
Thanks to this, the young Nigerians have sealed their ticket to the quarter-finals of the competition, thus continuing their impressive journey.
From the opening minutes, Nigeria imposed intense pressure, forcing Ecuador to retreat and defend relentlessly. After several unsuccessful attempts, the opening goal finally came in the 28th minute thanks to Shakirat Moshood.
The young forward, who showed her prowess in the first match, perfectly exploited a defensive error by Ecuador to open the scoring. This goal saw Nigeria take the lead before the break, an advantage they quickly consolidated in the second half.
Harmony Chidi, who is known for her dribbling, doubled the scoring in the 54th minute with a classy goal, which was a just reward for the constant efforts of the young Nigerian star, who was deservingly voted Player of the Match for her remarkable performance.
Peace Effiong made it three in the 66th minute, effectively putting the result to bed.
Moshood put the cherry on top of a wonder performance and struck again in added time, sealing the fate of the match with an impressive brace.
With this resounding victory, the Super Flamingos qualified for the quarter-finals with a group match to spare, taking advantage of the draw between the Dominican Republic and New Zealand to secure their place among the eight best teams of the tournament.
