The Las Vegas Raiders signed first-round draft pick Brock Bowers. He is a tight end taken 13th from Georgia. Bowers is slotted to make $18.14 million over four years, according to Spotrac. He was one of six players the Raiders announced Thursday as having signed with the club. The only ones who remain unsigned are offensive linemen Jackson Powers-Johnson and DJ Glaze. Powers-Johnson was selected in the second round out of Oregon and Glaze in the third from Maryland.

LOS ANGELES — A name that might be familiar to regular watchers of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” has come up in connection to the criminal case against Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.
Harry Kewell and Hernan Crespo will shake hands as head coaches with the Asian title on the line almost two decades after facing each other when Liverpool met AC Milan in the famous 2005 UEFA Champions League final. Kewell is now in charge of Yokohama F.Marinos, the Japanese club hosting Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates on Saturday in the first leg of the Asian Champions League final series. Kewell was the victor in ’05 when Liverpool recovered from a 3-0 deficit to triumph in a shootout. Crespo scored two goals for Milan in Istanbul that day but ended as a losing finalist. He’s hoping to lift the Asian trophy at Al-Ain after the second leg on May 25.
Yordan Alvarez and Jon Singleton each hit long homers in the first inning for the Houston Astros who beat the New York Yankees 4-3 to avoid being swept in the season series. Alvarez hit a two-out solo shot off Marcus Stroman into the second deck in right field measured at 116.8 mph. Two batters later, Singleton hit a two-run homer off the facade along the third deck clocked at 115.4 mph. Anthony Volpe hit a two-run homer off Astros starter Ronel Blanco. Aaron Judge also homered for the Yankees.

NEW YORK — Josh Hart is sitting at his locker after emptying the tank — again — in Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
When two-time NCAA champion Rose Zhang came out of Stanford and became the first woman to win her professional debut since 1951, the sky was suddenly the limit. Everyone expected Zhang to win again and again and again, much like Nelly Korda has been doing these days with her five-event streak. Something unexpected happened. After winning the Mizuho Americas Open in Jersey City, New Jersey, last year, Zhang hasn’t won again. Back in New Jersey this week, the 20-year-old tied the tournament record with a 9-under 63 to take a two-stroke lead over Madelene Sagstrom in the Cognizant Founders Cup at the Uppper Montclair Country Club. Korda was six shots back.
Rory McIlroy hoped that his victory with Shane Lowry two weeks ago in the Zurich Classic team event would serve as a springboard for the remainder of the season. He’s off to a good start. McIlroy positioned himself for a run at a record fourth Wells Fargo Championship title Thursday, opening with a 4-under 67 that left him three shots behind leader Xander Schauffele. Collin Morikawa and Alex Noren also shot 67, and Justin Thomas topped the group at 68. Quail Hollow is one of McIlroy’s favorite courses, and with good reason after victories in 2010, ‘15 and ’21.
DENVER — With a fourth-inning touchdown, the Rockies sidestepped the sad narrative of their spring on Thursday afternoon at Coors Field.

The Minnesota Timberwolves did the hard part by winning the first two games of their Western Conference semifinal series in Denver against the defending champion Nuggets. Now they get to play Game 3 at home in front of a raucous fan base celebrating the franchise’s advancement past the first round for just the second time ever. The New York Knicks also have a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers. They’ll go on the road to face a Pacers team that has been outrebounded 84-66 and frustrated by the officiating.
Thursday
NEW YORK — The Giants have signed veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson II, the team announced on Thursday.

The New Orleans Saints have signed their first-round draft choice, tackle Taliese Fuaga, to a four-year deal. The club announced the agreement a day before Friday’s opening of the Saints’ three-day rookie camp. The 6-foot-6, 324-pound Fuaga’s prospects for playing are high because Andrus Peat left in free agency after finishing last season as one of New Orleans’ starting tackles. Meanwhile starting right tackle Ryan Ramczyk’s ability to return to form following offseason knee surgery is uncertain. Fuaga started all 12 games at right tackle in 2023 for Oregon State and he was selected first-team All-Pac-12 last season. Fuaga was drafted 14th overall and was the fourth offensive tackle drafted.
Thursday
New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil is in the lineup for Thursday’s playoff game against the Carolina Hurricanes. It marks his first action since November and coming more than three months after he was ruled out for the season due to a head injury. That meant 6-foot-8 rookie Matt Rempe was a healthy scratch for Game 3 of the second-round series. The 24-year-old Chytil played just 10 regular-season games before facing suspected concussion issues.
OG Anunoby won’t play for the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Friday night because of a strained left hamstring. Jalen Brunson is questionable with his sore right foot. Brunson returned from his injury after missing the second quarter to lead the Knicks to a 130-121 victory Wednesday for a 2-0 lead over the Indiana Pacers. But Anunoby was hurt in the second half after scoring a career playoff-high 28 points, leaving the Knicks’ injury-depleted frontcourt without yet another starter. The forward limped off the court holding the back of his leg. The Knicks are 26-5 this season with Anunoby in the lineup.
Left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser is expected to make his MLB debut when Milwaukee takes on the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. The Brewers acquired Gasser along with outfielder Eury Pérez and pitcher Dinelson Lamet in the 2022 trade that sent star closer Josh Hader to the San Diego Padres. Gasser is the only player in that group who remains in Milwaukee’s organization. Gasser is feeling fine now after dealing with bone spurs in his throwing elbow during spring training.

The Los Angeles Rams have traded receiver Ben Skowronek to the Houston Texans in a swap of late-round draft picks. Houston got Skowronek and a seventh-round pick in 2026 for a sixth-round pick in 2026. Skowronek was a seventh-round draft choice from Notre Dame who played his way into a significant role on offense and special teams during his three seasons with the Rams. He notably had two catches for 12 yards as a rookie in the Rams’ Super Bowl victory while playing 46 snaps on offense after Odell Beckham Jr.’s injury.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without center Jarrett Allen for Game 2 against the Boston Celtics on Thursday as he continues to deal with bruised ribs. Allen is missing his fifth consecutive game. He hasn’t played since Game 4 of the Cavaliers’ first-round series with the Orlando Magic. Evan Mobley will start again in his place. Dean Wade had previously been ruled out with a sprained right knee. Allen has averaged 17 points and 13.8 rebounds in four games this postseason.
The WNBA announced it will use league-wide charter flights on a full-time basis for the first time this season. The charters will begin at the start of the regular season. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert says the league has been working to build a model that will support charter flights for the long term. Players have said using charter flights would address years of safety concerns. It means no more long security lines, bodyguards in public spaces, cramped legroom or layovers for the professional athletes who have been lobbying for better travel long before Caitlin Clark brought increased interest to the league.
Tennessee State has hired seven-time WNBA All-Star Candice Dupree as the Tigers’ new women’s basketball coach. Athletic director Mikki Allen announced the move Thursday. Dupree is the program’s 13th coach all-time. Dupree played 16 seasons in the WNBA as the sixth overall pick in the 2006 draft out of Temple. She played for Chicago, Phoenix, Indiana, Seattle and Atlanta in her career. Dupree then took part in the NBA’s assistant coach program before working with San Antonio as a player development assistant. She says it’s an honor to be entrusted with upholding TSU’s tradition while embracing an evolving sports landscape.
Colton Herta comes to Indianapolis with big goals each May. This year, the stakes are even higher. The 24-year-old American finds himself atop the standings for the first time in his career and by the narrowest possible margin, one point, over two-time series champion Will Power. And the rest of the drivers aren’t separated by much, either. Two-time series champ Alex Palou is just three points back and six-time champ Scott Dixon trails Herta by seven points.
Arkansas lawmakers have adjourned this year’s session without approving a budget for the Game and Fish Commission. The House failed to approved the appropriation for the commission, which oversees the state’s hunting, fishing and conservation programs. The move creates uncertainty about whether the agency will be able to operate on July 1 if its budget isn’t approved. The standoff stems from objections to its proposal to raise the maximum salary for the commission’s director. Lawmakers can’t return to the Capitol unless Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders calls a special session. Legislative leaders said they’re confident the agency’s budget will get passed by July.
