The National Team Bafana Bafana have been rewarded for their recent showings in the international assignments.
In the recently concluded international break, South Africa played Uganda and South Sudan respectively in Group K of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Against the former, the Hugo Broos-led team claimed a 2-0 win at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala before beating South Sudan 3-0 at home.
The results ensured South Africa finished the qualifiers without tasting defeat; they topped their group with 14 points after four wins and two draws. Cranes followed with a point less after four wins, a draw and a loss.
Congo finished third with four points as the Bright Stars of South Sudan finished at the bottom of the pool with just three.
In the latest ranking released by the World Football Governing Body Fifa, South Africa has climbed back into the 10th position in the continent.
In the world, Bafana Bafana have been ranked 57th while Morocco remain the highest-ranked African country globally at position 14. Senegal’s Lions of Teranga come in second in the continent after being placed 17th.
Other teams from Africa that complete the top five list are Egypt who are 33rd in the World, 37th placed Algeria, and Nigeria who are 44th overall.
Ivory Coast (46), Cameroon (49), Mali (51), and Tunisia (52) are the other teams placed above South Africa in the continent.
The fans in Mzansi hope the national team’s steady rise will continue owing to their good record and quality within the squad.
