The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is planning to open a regional delegation in Morocco for the next World Cup in 2030, which the Moroccan kingdom will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
According to information from L’Economiste, the FIFA office to be opened in Morocco, probably in Rabat, will host some 300 employees of the international football body who will carry out various activities on Moroccan territory until 2030 in preparation for the next World Cup.
This measure will mean another economic benefit for Morocco in addition to all those that the World Cup will bring to the Moroccan kingdom, such as ticket sales, advertising and marketing, the sale of various products related to the event and even tourist visits. These 300 employees will have an important economic footprint in the North African country.
According to reports, these workers will not be subject to double taxation, as they are taxed in Switzerland, where FIFA’s official headquarters are located. The measures the Moroccan government intends to take include granting FIFA an exemption from corporate tax, income tax and value added tax, in addition to registration fees and profits on similar income.
These initiatives are aimed at attracting as much FIFA activity as possible to the Moroccan kingdom in order to generate wealth and boost various sectors on Moroccan territory.
In this way, steps continue to be taken towards the organisation of the 2030 World Cup, in which Morocco will be the official host country, along with Spain and Portugal. The distribution of venues in the different nations for hosting World Cup matches has yet to be fully defined.
However, Rabat will certainly be one of the Moroccan kingdom’s main fixed venues for the 2030 World Cup, with the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium as a reference point, which will have a capacity of 65,000 spectators after refurbishment; along with Casablanca, where the large Hassan II Stadium is planned, which will have a capacity of 115,000 spectators once work is completed in 2028 and which aspires to host the World Cup final, something for which the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, is also in the running.
