Celtic are expected to get plenty of deals done this winter, whether it be incomings or outgoings. The club have already parted ways with Stephen Welsh, as he has joined KV Mechelen on a loan basis. On the other hand, the Hoops were believed to have agreed another deal but now, it looks like that might end up getting derailed.
The player we are talking about is none other than Luis Palma. Signed in the summer of 2023 from Aris FC, the Honduran had initially looked like a solid addition for Celtic.
But as time has progressed, he has gradually slipped down the pecking order at Parkhead. And after getting barely any chances in the first half of the season, the writing seems to be on the wall for him. Leaving the club might be the right step at this point but unfortunately, it looks like one potential exit route might no longer be available.
As reported by the Daily Record, Palma's Celtic exit is in jeopardy after FIFA's intervention to hand Rayo Vallecano a three-window transfer ban. The Spanish top flight team were believed to be closing in on a loan deal for the Honduran winger, with the option to sign him permanently for €2.5 million.
That is bad news for Celtic. Getting a chance to move to La Liga might have helped him get his career back on track.
It remains to be seen if other opportunities open up for Palma. One can only hope that they crop up in the near future.
It is worth pointing out that Palma had been linked with a move to the MLS not too long ago. Perhaps that could still be an option for the Honduran international in this ongoing winter transfer window.
